




Organic Mission in Tripura
Tripura is a hilly state in North East India. It shares borders with Bangladesh, Mizoram & Assam. Tripura is surrounded by Bangladesh on its North, South & West. It covers 10.491 KM . Net sown area of the state is 2.55 Lakh Ha. with annual rainfall of 220cm. Average size of land holding is 0.56 Ha only.

Presently two organic farming scheme is being implemented in the state, Namely Mission Organic Value Chain Development for North East Region (MOVCDNER) & Paramparagat Krishi Vikash Yojana (PKVY).

Paramparagat Krishi Vikash Yojana (PKVY):

Participatory Guarantee System (PGS) is a quality assurance initiative that is locally relevant, emphasize the participation of stakeholders, including producers and consumers and operate outside the frame work of third party certification. Paramparagat Krishi Vikash Yojana (PKVY) scheme started during the year 2015-16 in Tripura.

Mission Organic Value Chain Development for North East Region (MOVCDNER) scheme started during the year 2015-16 with a 100% share of central funding. 2000 Ha area is brought under organic farming through this
scheme, covering all the 8 districts of Tripura. Traditional hilly areas where no or limited use of chemical fertilizers are practice, are taken into consideration while selection of areas for registration under the organic mission. 132 Nos Farmers Interest Group (FIG) & 4 Nos Farmers Producer Company (FPC) are formed so far. 2504 Nos
farmers trained on organic farming, registered and brought under scope certification till date. Major crops taken are Scented Rice, Ginger, Turmeric, Maize, Arhar and Mustard. The brand name “Tripura Organic” has been created for the organically grown products of Tripura, through this scheme.
The Govt. of India, Ministry of Agriculture has sanctioned Rs. 716.25 lakhs for Tripura state (at 90:10 sharing pattern) under Parampargat Krishi Vikas Yujana (PKVY) for three consecutive years since 2015-16 to 2017-18 for organic farming and PGS certification in 50 cluster covering 50 acre /cluster with the tentative involvement of 2500 farmers. Accordingly 1000 Ha area was brought under organic farming through this scheme. 50 Nos of clusters are registered under PGS-India portal involving 2267 Nos of farmers, covering all the 8 districts of Tripura. Major crops taken are namely, Bird Eye Chilli, Sesame, Aromatic & Local Red Rice, Foxtail, Pineapple, Orange and other vegetables. The brand name “Tripureshwari Fresh” has been created for the organically grown products of Tripura, through this scheme.


State Department of Agriculture has already notified the 8(eight) Project Director of ATMA of the districts to act as Regional Council (RC) under PGS-India and already registered under NCOF, GOI. 25 blocks under 8 districts have been covered @ 2 cluster /block based on use of low of agri. input areas and also where traditional practices are made and having upland areas.
